So you’ve followed the steps to a successful and honest sale, and everything went great. You built rapport, you connected with your customer, and they trust you. Don’t waste all that effort you put in by not ensuring that they would come back to you for future purchases. We’re going to be discussing repeat customers and how you can ensure they come back to you.
Most of us have been to a car dealership right? Sometimes you notice the sales associates just standing around and hopefully one of them will approach you eventually. There’s also some sales associates that just seem to always stand there and not approach anyone. Either they don’t want your business or they strictly do repeat business and referrals. Those guys understand the value of repeat customers and how much traffic they can drive to you. A happy customer will more likely refer you to their friends who are looking for similar goods or services and also come back to you for future purchases because they trust you. Let your happy customers advertise for you.
The first thing you can do, assuming your sale went well, is to offer them your card. People always forget names and phone numbers and will most likely forget your name or phone number. Guess where that information and the location of where they met you and where to find you is on? You guessed it, you’re business card. It also makes it easier for them to give it their friends and relatives with their recommendation of you. When people specifically come to you because of a good recommendation from a happy customer, part of the approach is already done for you.
I used to work at a cell phone store and I used this next tip very often. People gave me their contact information when filling out the contract for their new phone, so I had their address. What can I do with that address? Write them a thank you card with my business card included. Sometimes our company had coupons for 10% off their next cell phone accessory purchase, I included those in the thank you card too. It honestly takes less than 5 minutes to write a thank you card and sometimes your company even provides the cards and pays for postage. Now you made them feel special and even give them a reason to return to the store to come see you.
Don’t take my word for it though, a lot of sales associates are doing it. I bought a brand new car last year and the sales associate asked for my email along with my address they needed to complete registration. Every few months he emails me with promotions the dealership is having, reminders for my services, and they even send me a nice personalized calendar every year. You know what, when I buy a new car, I’m going back to him.
