People hate you

angerIt’s human nature to dislike or even hate someone who has done them wrong in the past. If a salesperson has crossed them in the past, guess what? You, as a salesperson, are categorized with the rest of them. Here are some of the reasons people don’t like salespeople. it’s important to know these so you can work on avoiding these and it will help to build rapport.

1. Pushy sales tactics: People don’t like being told what to do or how to spend their money. By being pushy you won’t get the sale, you’ll drive your customer running.

2. Lack of product knowledge: People don’t want to be duped or mislead about products they buy. Have you ever bought something that a salesperson told you was capable of doing more than it actually could do? Think about how frustrated you felt. They might not have done it intentionally but it’s still frustrating none the less.

3. People don’t equal dollar signs: Just because someone is a potential customer of yours doesn’t mean you should rape them in commission. If they want products that make you more on commission, then that’s fine. What isn’t fine is when you’re trying to push products onto your customers because it makes you more money than a product they actually want.

4. People are people too: They have feelings and emotions just like you. Show some interest or concern in what they have to say.

Knowing these reasons why people hate salespeople is very important to you so you can avoid them yourself. If you can prove to people you’re not like every other shady salesperson out there, you’re already one ahead of the crowd. Rapport is everything in sales.
